Default help in tuning the s2000

hi, im looking to tune up my s2000.

As i have noticed the products available have multiplied recently. what i neeeeed is someone to suggest what the best VALUE for PERFORMANCE is, keeping it naturally aspirated of course!!!

i am currently thinking about:

-Headers (manifold) from Spoon,

-cat back from HKS (twin mufflers),

-some performance air filter but one that gets the air from outside the engine bay,

-Piggy back ECU (which requires better valve springs)

-and so valve springs

-camshafts (i have no info on camshafts as to what hp gaind i would get so i am subjective)

NO NOS, TURBOS OR SUPERCHARGERS!!!

has anyone here had experience with these products because from what i read, mugen products make the car more "refined" and "drivable", something im not interested in. i want hi-end rpm power

thanks for your patience

Takis

IMO...with these mods you will get higher PEAK hp and torque at higher rpm, but you will lose tons of power in lower end. So overall, your car wont be much faster than stock car considering money u spending.

More power from NA tuning on F20 is wont be easy because it is already pretty maxed out.
Mod you listed wont give u much power but you will lose alot in lower end which will make ur car longer to get to the power band. Also drivablity in low end will be just horrible...

As you said...if ur ONLY goal is faster car just get SC or turbo. it will give u better result for that money.

to jwkim,

i dont really agree with you that it will get so slow at low revs, the air filters, exhaust & manifold help the f20 in breathing...

then the piggyback ecu would compromise fuel consumption for power, and make it rev a bit higher, and also make the vtec come in a little earlier, so again i dont see the down side...

i' read that changing the valve sprins is a necessity if your messing with the ecu, so i thought, since im having it opened up, why not get better camshafts in...

thanks for your opinion though

every comment is valued

to turbo_pwr

thank man, i agree with what your saying, and like the idea except that the hiflow hks cat back was dyno proven +5hp

about the valves heres a quote from the internet:

Mugen N1 ECU

This is specially mapped to the fuel mixture, ignition timing, and combustion. The rev limit is increased to 9,100 rpm from the normal 8,400 rpm, and the VTEC valve timing changeover point is lowered to 4,700 rpm from the normal 5,300 rpm. It is highly recommended that reinforced valve springs be fitted if this E.C.U. is used.

TS2000 - Mugen ECU is not a piggyback system. It is a very effective unit, expensive, but it is not tunable. It's a direct replacment of the stock unit. BTW, that description is wrong, that is the description for the ITR that you are looking at. The Mugen ECU for the S2000 does not need valve springs and the rev limit remains the same as stock.

Most of you guys heard of Dinan right? very repectable tuner for BMW.

Once C&D tested two Dinan E36 M3 and totally stock E36 M3

One of Dinan was supercharged(of course it was faster than stock M3)
and the other one had N/A tuning which includes exhaust/intake, chip and cam(worth $2000+).

The actual difference bettween stock and N/A Dinan in 1/4 was ONLY like 0.1 sec even tho Dinan M3 claims to have about 15 peak HP more than stock.

Of course this doesnt not apply to ALL N/A tuning situation but it is just my thought that it wont be very cost effiective way.

hey turbo_pwr,

do you know about the Spoon ecu? any good?

in fact do you know which ecu would give me the best hp gain taking into account that im changing the exhaust, headers and air filter for sure?

i know there are a couple that you change from the stock ecu but they wont work to the limit becasue there not programmed for the other mods you make.

have you changed your ecu? if not, why?

thanks for your responses
