Default Hesistation in first and second

I just drove my dads 02 S2K, and right around 8,000 RPMs in first and second, it will hesitate for just an instant, then snaps back to full power, and pulls to the redline without any problem, it doesn't do it in third gear, and it doesn't do it every time in first and second. It almost feels like the limiter kicking in, but not as harsh. It was happening after i had been driving for about 20 minutes. The car only has about 10,700 miles, and we have only owned it for about a month.

Anyone have any ideas?

check the oil level. i bet you are low on oil.

in fact, i hope it's not dangerously low. that can cause damage, particularly on an engine that runs this hot.

It may be a candidate for the MAP TSB.

Yup, MAP or TPS. Choose your alphabet.

MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure. This sensor is located on the top of the throttle body. Look at these threads about how to deal with it:

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor. On some rare circumstances, this sensor needs to be "reset". There is a series of steps that must be taken to do this as it "forgets" what position the throttle plate is in. This prevents the ECU from running the engine properly. The Helm service manual outlines how to do this.

I had the same problem. I put a zip tie around my map sensor just to see... hesitation hasn't come back since.
