Default High idle

Well.. lets see.. I just came back from a 1700 mile drive from California to Wyomming.. and up in wyomming my car was having trouble with the air/fuel mixture.. and elevation made it seem as though my car had lost some power... and now that Im back in Cali.. my car starts up at 2k idle.. which has never happened before.. anyone know what the problem is.. could disconnecting the battery be a simple solution ?

How long does it stay at 2K? If it's only a minute or so, not a big deal. Mine always goes to about 2K after a cold start. How long it stays there depends on what the ambient temps are where you start it. The colder it is, the longer it stays up there. It could be considered that your car was weird before and now it's just normal.

As Xviper said, the 2k idle on a cold start is normal. You don't say what part of California you live in. Maybe if you're in the warmer parts of the state you simply haven't noticed the 2k (cold start) idle speeds because it doesn't last very long. Here in Texas, with 80+ degrees at 6:30 am, my car doesn't stay at 2k very long on the first start of the day either. During the winter time when early morning temps are in the low 40's, it stays there quite a bit longer.

As for your cars performance up in Wyoming, there's also nothing wrong with the air/fuel mixture. Your car "seemed" to loose some power because it "did" loose some power. This is also normal. The higher you get in elevation above sea level, the less air pressure there is. Lower air pressures mean that less air gets into the cylinders on each intake stroke for a given throttle position. The higher you go, the worse this situation becomes. The computer controlled fuel injection reads all of this and compensates for it so your air/fuel mixture is right were it's supposed to be.

I don't know if you're the type to check very often but I'll bet you got some pretty good gas mileage while you were in Wyoming.

FWIW!

By the way, what should the idle be with a warmed up motor?

800 rpm +/-50, in neutral, clutch out.

Mine hovers around 900 to 1000. Suits me fine.
