run a google search on high octane pump, there's station all over california that sells higher octane gas, it's not that hard to find it if you are really looking.

I was just wondering if you guys feel the difference between unleaded premium octane and plus? I usually go for the plus (89 octane) and it feels pretty much the same as the premium (93 octane). Which type do you guys use?
of course, your butt is just as sensitive as knock sensor in your car.

93, or 94.

Citgo's sometimes have 91 here (FL), but I don't think the 5cents a gallon difference is worth going lower then 93.

Is your octane rating different (US) to others?

We are recommended to use premium in Aus. Either 96 or 98RON.

We had Shell V-power racing which had 10% ethanol but was 100RON.

anyone able to confirm a difference between US and Aus ?

if 87 octane is $2.69, 89 is $2.79, and 91 or 93 is $2.93 or something, then you're saving like $0.14 per gallon, * ~12 gallon fill up = $1.68 you saved. relative to the $30k you shelled out (or will shell out) for your car, that's nothing. i'll just guess that you fill up 4 times a month, which is 48 times a year, which means you're saving a whopping $80 a year by using lower octane fuel than the manual says to use.

i don't know, but i prefer peace of mind and just filling up with 91/92/93 octane.

Use 91 or higher. Most cars will retard the timing if you use less then recommended. Yes you can use 89 or even 87 but the car will not perform as well and your MPG will go down because of the timing retard.

12gal @ $2.95 $35.40
12gal @ $3.25 $39.00 <- normally would be 3.15 showing 3.25 to exaggerate.

I think if you can afford an S2000 you should be able to maintain it properly. I say use 91+ 240hp from a 2.2L is a great engineering accomplishment. I think they want us to run 91+ for a reason.

I use to have an RX8. Poor gas mileage was a big problem many guys had. I was getting 13mpg. Same driving style, I now get 20-22 in my S2k. A few guys did experiments testing gas mileage running 91 and cost per mile to run 91 octane vs running 87 mpg and the cost per mile to run 87 octane. The cost per mile was about the same.

Ok, here's the solution that makes everybody happy.

Next time you gas up, make sure you have an empty tank.

Then, fill halfway with 93, and top it off with 89. Jump up and down on the trunk a few times to mix it, and voila! You now have a tank of 91.

Maybe... Back when gas was cheaper I ran a comparison test on a Z71 and a Titan both of which did not require high octane. I found that I got better gas mileage (not to mention better performance) when using 91-93 octane instead of 87. The increased mileage offset any savings. I'm sure that this would not be the case with all vehicles but IMO is worth considering.

I only use 93 or 94. Although 91 is the suggested, higher is ok, where lower is not. In addition, strangly enough, 91 is very, very and I mean very hard to find around here, the choices are 87, 89 and then 93 or 94, that's about it when it comes to gas.
