Default high speed cruising

i feel uncomfortable driving above 80 or so on the freeway for long periods of time. i know it's all in my head, but in many cars, i feel like it's wasting gas, it's noisier and less safe. so i end up around 70 in the middle lane, unless i feel like a spurt of speed. anyone else feel similar?

I don't. All you need is a good radar detector. To me 80 is the perfect speed to cruise at.

I try to do that. If the road is clear and you are doing 80, that's the best time for a cop to pull you over.

80-85 here. The key is to find the guy going as fast or faster, set the cruise, and follow. 9/10 times the cop will pull them over first.

same here. i try to find someone whos going faster than me, but not an insane speed, then follow. i hate being the leader on the road, i rather be the follower and allow someone else to set the pace. when its open road however and im the only one, i actually tend to slow it down.

I have found 80 yields better gas mileage than 70 in these cars. The F20C is definitely more efficient in the higher RPM's. My best mileage ever was driving a steady 85 mph.

What MPG was that?

I've seen my MPG go up by about 3 by dropping from 80 to 70.

80-90% on the highway...

Must be some good crack you are smoking.

It takes a lot more energy to plow though the air at 80 mph than it does at 70 mph. Even if the engine is more volumetrically efficient at higher revs (I'm not sure that it is for this case), it wouldnt be enough to make up for the increased drag.

You will almost always get maximum fuel economy between 40-60 mph in top gear. This applies to all cars.
