Hit 117mph today, but......

I'm not putting down the Eclipse, I'm only stating what I felt. That car is in no way built as good as an S2000. I've gone way over 120mph in a few cars, the Eclipse happened to be the most unstable one (I had a GSX maybe thats the problem) it's just not a great road car in my opinion.

If you removed the speedlimits tomorrow on U.S. Interstates without first increasing the driver training and seat belt usage (something the Germans do very well) our fatality rate would shoot through the roof.

Just for everyone's information, a study commissioned by the American Automobile Association Foundation for Traffic Safety showed that looking statewide, states which increased their speed limits saw fatalities FALL by an average of 3.4 to 5.1 percent. Another study in California showed that accidents by male drivers dropped when speed limits were raised (female drivers had an increase).
More interesting facts: for those in insurance, a recent study showed that 16-25 year old females are now responsible for almost 50% of the accidents caused by a person in that age group, yet still pay 35-40% less than a male driver for the same coverage. And 77% of Californians fail the written test the first time- Wow! Bleh. I'm done.
I admit, we still have some crappy drivers. I think we should be more stringent about training, and those causing accidents should go through additional training to prevent it again.

My Accord hit 111 (indicated) last night on my way back to Dallas - pretty stable but awfully noisy (mostly tire noise - I have new ones on the way as mine are pretty near bald).

The original thread as I see it, was aimed at discussing the S2000's aerodynamic stability at high speed, over 100mph.
My S is Japanese spec and, much to my horror I found out, is limited to 180kmh (which I will soon have by-passed).
At 180kmh, I found it relatively stable. There was some 'wander' up front during high speed cornering, but i suspect possible culprits are tyre (400kms on new SO-3s) pressures or a loose lower arm ball joint / anti-roll bar.
The national speed limit here is, if I'm not mistaken, 120kmh on highways. Having done 155mph in a 911, I can't pull out and polish my halo with respect to speeding. But 95% of the time I drive a alone and try to choose hours when there is very little or next to no traffic.
Still there is no disputing that 'speeding' on public roads is an offence, no matter how you justify it. But life isn't perfect and neither are we.
That brings me to issue TANGENT to this thread.
JonBoy, I've read a couple of threads you've contibuted to and I know, you love a good 'debate'. I'm not blindly jumping on the bandwagon, but travelling at above the legal limit with nearly bald tires can't be right for yourself let alone your family. WHETHER YOU choose to see it that way or not...is STRICTLY up to you. And for those you trying to 'educate' JonBoy as to your opinion, state your case and move on. As good as your intentions maybe, he's entitled to his opinion and to do as he pleases as it is HE who will ultimately bear the consequences of his actions.
Got to say though, I liked the Abe Lincoln quote.
So here's his famous last words...." err darling, I'm tired of staying in, fancy going to the theatre tonight?"

well lets see, i have gone past 120 (speedometer stops here) in my 97' accord, 147 mph and still more to go in my 95 GS-R, and 165 on my 03' R6, i have to say the R6 was the most stable at high speeds, still turned like i was going 25, (by turning i mean switching lanes on the highway).

Going fast on a bke is easy. And liter bikes are rediculously fast. I had a YZF r1 and it was easier to get up to 165 on that than it is to get a S2000 to 110. Honestly, if I was going ~70 mph and I wanted to pass a semi, I could see 120mph+ before I even got past the cab of the truck. And thats without downshifting.
