how fast were you going?
Approx. 65 mph. There was no warning and little could have been done about it.

RACER, thank-you, I will crawl under this afternoon and take a look. My thoughts are that, barring direct impact of the diff, subframe, or control arms (of which there is no evidence), I would see rim damage or a blown tire before the suspension would ever break or a subframe weld give away. Could I really have hit with anymore force than some those who track the car over rumble strips at 80 mph? (Mike Garrison, any input??)

All with additional suggestions or experience are appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure there is no construction worker stuffed up under your car, banging on your wheels, so you'll go to get him help.

Yes, hitting rumblestrips is nothing although it is pretty unlikely that you incurred damage to the diff, subframe, control arms or ball joint's. I once separated a ball joint from a steering knuckle on an 86 CRX with a pickle fork. About two weeks later, I noticed a squeak and my steering felt a little bit firmer than it used to feel. Well, a couple of days later, I was going about 45 mph and the front right corner of my car started to violently shake. (this was the corner that I had separated the ball joint) I pulled over and inspected it. Upon inspection, I came to the conclusion that the entire right front corner was jacked. Like a dumbass, I got back in the car and proceeded to turn around to go back home which was 5 miles away. All of a sudden, the entire right front corner collapsed.

The only indication that I had before the failure was a slight squeak and a little bit heavier than normal steering. I'm not trying to scare anyone, just saying that the inevitable can happen. I seriously doubt that you incurred any damage to your car although it isn't hard to bend a control arm. If it makes you feel better, get it re-aligned and checked out by a professional.

BTW, alloys don't really bend, they'll crack first.

I would check all your suspension and tire components to be sure. Just last week, I sliced a tire on a hunk of wood in a construction zone. You may have damaged the alignment as well. Take it to a flat, straight area and make sure it still goes well in a straignt line. There's been a ton of construction in my area over the last few years, and I've destroyed my fair share of wheels and tires on them. Fortunately, I've also become very aware of how to check for damages on that kind of stuff.
