What if an engine is turbocharged? Is hitting the rev limiter bad then?
I think I've read somewhere that it's bad to cut off the fuel supply to a turbocharged engine at high PSIs.

oh good! i was worried for a bit, hit it a few times over the weekend, had some cousins over so took them for a spin. one of them just got a boxster S a few months ago and he fell in love with our gearbox, they couldn't believe how nice it was and how nice the car looked in person.
I dont think I've hit the rev limited as I have shifted always at just 9k. I did once miss shift to 2 in stead of 4 once..
I caught it really fast though and pressed the clutch in when the engine was just climbin to abou 8.5.. phew.. no damage done.
I won't be doing that again. I was going like 70 too.. eek!!
Now why would I be going from 6th to 4th while going 70???

In regards to [ack] turbo diesels, they need to be pushed sometimes or the turbo gets clogged. Was with a mechanic friend when a granny came in complaining about poor performance. We went for a drive and it was bad. So he just put it in first, kept it on the limiter for about 10 minutes until the large amount of black smoke coming out the back stopped. Then tried driving it properly and it was *much* better. Wouldn't let him touch my cars though....
Similarly if you never engage the vtec cam lobes I imagine they'll get covered in gunk and a 9k thrash would be the easiest (not necessarily the best as I wouldn't recommend it) way to clear that.
of course that could all just be

First of all, there's not really any gunk that could accumulate on the VTEC lobes. There is oil up there, but if it is so dirty that it classifies as "gunk", then you've got worse problems.
Secondly, the VTEC lobes still contact the rollers, even when VTEC is not "engaged". Granted, they aren't locked in place, so there isn't as much pressure on the lobe, but they still touch, and probably with enough pressure to keep the cam lobe clean.

Well I hit the Rev Limiter for first time in my S2k and was thinking well how bad was that. I bounced hard off it to, just got distracted and didnt think was time to shift yet I was thinking it shouldent be too bad since thats why the rev limiter is there but then again bouncing off the last protection before blowing a engine isnt good
Thoughts?
