I know what you mean...however I was surprised to hear from a friend of mine in Chicago that had her '98 Civic HX backed into and the person LEFT A NOTE! Not only was the fact that this happened in Chicago shocking to me, but the fact that her car has previous damage to about every other body panel makes it even more amazing that a note was left. It must have been the most honest person in Chicago...kind of a nice surprise though. She said as a gift to them for being honest she is going to call them and tell them not to worry about the damage they caused because her car is so beat down already.
