Default hks exhaust question

anybody know what that big tube/cylinder-looking thing is on the hks hi-power exhaust (right where it splits and comes out the back)? just curious...lol never seen anything like it on any other exhaust.

ahhh...so what's the deal with resonators? i've been told that cutting them off will make the car louder, but would doing so have any kind of negative effects on the engine, gas mileage, etc?

I don't think so, I believe its mainly for sound. I've seen posts before that ppl actually added custom made resonators for the stock exhaust or others to make it quieter...

Personally I don't think it has any adverse affects aside from changin sound.
