Default Holy Droning, Batman!

Hey Guys,

FYI- I'm concerned with interior droning and noise...

Just had my stock mufflers replaced (Magnaflows) byAcosta Racing (that hyperlink shows a car they worked on- I'm not advertising for them, so please don't delete) and now my car inside is absolutely RIDICULOUSLY loud. I hear about how loud Invidias are and I don't know you you guys stand it.

I have a couple of questions (Yes, I SEARCHED, but I want more detail):

1- Is it conclusive on S2Ki that Dynamat works wonders for interior droning/resonance due to aftermarket mufflers/exhaust?

2- Is it actually possible for it to be louder in the cabin with soft-top on than outside the car? Meaning My f-ing ears are exploding while the guy in the car behind me gets to listen to the sweet roar?

3- Where is the best place to put Dynamat and do I need a lot of it to make it quieter?

4- Will I still be able to hear the exhaust after installing Dynamat? I just wanna get rid of the droning/resonance, but hear the exhaust itself from inside the cabin.

5- The reason I'm not including silencers or throwing the stock resonator back in is because they told me it will make the droning "quieter" while not being able to decrease it altogether- meaning everything is just toned down, not that specific noise. -Yes weinie-type stub is still installed- just no more stock resonator.

Otherwise, Acosta did a great job... My S sounds MEAN AS HELL! But the interior vibration or whatever that is is just plain deafening from inside the cabin with the top on. It hurts most at like 3000-4500 RPM- unfortunaly where I am most of the time. Gosh it's loud- like my ears are going to explode... I hope it is in fact the droning, because at 4500+ and in VTEC it sounds AMAZING!

Thanks for everyones help!

Why'd you replace the mufflers if you are worried about noise? Did they reuse the OEM piping?

I dont mind the noise coming from the exhaust itself- or the tuned noise, it's the droning or I guess vibration in the cabin that gets me... hence my question re: dynamat possibly reducing this "unwanted" droning.

fyi - dynamating a car is WAY expensive. you basically want to cover both doors and the entire interior...do the trunk if you have a subwoofer back there.

dynamat will reduce the vibration and noise...kinda muting it.

check out an audio forum to find good alternatives to dynamt. mcmaster-car sells some good stuff. brown bread also works well.

Welcome to the world of single exhausts. I had the same reaction to the T1R. I couldn't stand it. Sold it after 2 days.

I was jsut thinking of putting a little... no more than the typical "door size" in the trunk (under spare) and around the back of the seats... I dont want too much weight. about 5-10lbs max.

Do you know any place that would sell any sound-deadening items where I can just walk in? Like a hardware store, Home Depot, Best Buy, etc?

I would just sell what you had custom made and order a fujitsubo. If you want an aftermarket dual exhaust with a nice tone and NO DRONE then that is the answer IMO.
