I have been deciding on which CAI to purchase and I finally decided on a CompTech CAI. While I was clearing my headlights last month, I came up with an idea to bring more air into the engine bay. I have not tested this induction system out, due to all the snow in Baltimore, but I thought I would share my idea with everyone. Below are some pictures of the system. It cost about $25.00 dollars in parts.
Below is the brace under the headlight assembly, which I used a 3/14" hole saw to cut the hole.
Below is the black plastic support, which I used the 3 1/4 hole saw to cut a hole.
The white PVC pipe is a 3" street 90, which I sawed off the coupling end at a 45 degree angle.
The aluminum duct is a 3" flexible line used for dryers. I cut the aluminum duct and used aluminum connectors between the headlight brace and the black support. I like to test the system with an air temperature gauge to see if there is any improvement.
I have not been able to test the system out at this point, due to the snow in Baltimore. I will not be able to really test the system until March. I am just keeping myself busy, until the weather clears
wow! i did the same thing like you did except i didn't cut any of the metal and i direct the hose to the small hole on the side. performance wise, i can hardly tell because i've just installed my exhaust not too long ago but i feel throttle response has been better. it might be my exhaust so i can't reall tell if that's true or not.
you can see a little bit of the vacuum hose in the grill area
just one little concern, it might actually lose some power, since when vtec engages the s2000 sucks up a bigger amount of air ...
since the hose has a lot of twists, snaked through the back of the bumper- it might create a tiny amount of vacuum "gap" when vtec.
i might be totally wrong, so correct me if i am.
otherwise, good job! looks real good/ nice workmanship!
Seung, thanks for the complement. I did not make the air duct the only air the CompTech air box will receive. I stopped the air duct just at the opening on the fender, so I hope this just provides additional cooler air?
I also, painted the PVC pipe black to hide as most of it from view.
