Default Honda Certified Used S2K

First of all I came upon this site from goggle and it has been very valuable in doing research on the car. I sold my 300ZX TT over the winter and pretty much am set on getting a new used Honda S2000. I searched the forum and read about many horror stories with Honda honoring warranties. Anyway, I have been looking at Honda Certified Used cars and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with the 7yr/100k warranty. Also, many have suggested a 3rd party warranty. Would you guys happened to know were these 3rd party warranties send you to get your car repaired when something breaks. I am concerned that they would send me to some low-end service facility that would not be familiar with the car. I would much prefer the dealer working on my car. Thanks

Sam

Check out the dealer too, when you're looking at Honda Certified cars. I looked at a certified 2002 S2K at my local dealer, and it was in pretty bad condition for a certified car, as far as I'm concerned.

There were lots of stone chips and scratches, some badly touched up, some just bare metal showing. There was plenty of wheel rash, and best of all, when they popped the hood, there was a nice collection of last year's leaves coating the filthy engine compartment.

Oh yeah, the interior was also dirty and very scratched up.

I asked the sales guy when they were going to do the '150 point check', and he said 'Oh, it's already done!'. Yeah, right.

Honda Certified cars LOL

it doesnt matter if its cert or not...honda doesnt care, they just want to sell it and make money

last time i went to see a 2002 with 28k miles, white
CEL was on, top was showing slightly wear and tear, lots of scatches and interior is horrible, theres a weird smell as well... one of the rims were curbed as well...there was no deck either...this was sometime last year
= (

my gosh...after that i just ran away...
went to the paper or buyandsell locally...

my suggestion to you is buy one under 36k miles or before the 3 year mark and have honda check up on it = )

making sure all the TSB's were done and such

surely they would they still honor the TSB if its still under 36kmiles/3years

A Honda dealership sold me a Lemon as a certified vehicle. After that.. the title "Honda Certified Use Vehicle" really isn't much of an incentive for me to buy a car.

I have the 7-year, 100K on my new '05, but I won't have a chance to test it out until my factory warranty runs out. I did have a good experience with a similar 6 year/100K that I got on my civic back in '99. I only had to use it once for a broken window motor, $50 deductable, in and out. The hardest part was tracking down the warranty info from the dealer I bought it from, four years after the fact.

That said, you can probably get a warranty that's better and cheaper through you bank or credit union. I found out after I bought the warranty that Honda was offering that I could have gotten a 6 year/100K through my credit union for much less and with no deductable.

The aftermarket extended warranties that I've looked at let you take the car to the dealership for service/repairs. PM me if you want more details.

I am 100% glad mine is certified. I have a $0 deductible. So far I have had the air pump, fuel pump, $500 towards the purchase of a hardtop, and soon a brand new soft top free. Thanks Honda Care! I know people have had horror stories but I can't find one thing wrong with the certified warranty. Just add up all the parts and labor that the above parts cost. Just look over the car well. If you find blemishes point them out and use them for negotiation. It also depends on what type of service manager the dealer has.

The best reason I saw for going with a Honda Cert Car (I ended up buying new one instead), was the finance rates through Honda. If you have your own financing, there's little reason to buy a "certified" car. Extended warranties are easy to buy, and are fairly cheap if you buy one when your car is still under the original manufacturers warranty. That way, you can buy a one owner private party car for a better price, buy a warranty and come out under the dealer's price.

You may want to consider new too. Tires, softop, shocks, brakes... all add up if changing them is immenent during the years you are going to own the car.
