Default Honda Certified -- what was done before pickup?

Bought an 05 S2K from a dealer and it is "Certified Pre-Owned". My question is pertaining to what they do as part of the whole comprehensive check-up/preparation.

Car had about 28k miles on it when I got it at the beginning of the month. What would they have done to the car to make it ready for sale? Did it get an oil change? Tranny fluid change? Diff fluid change? Did they do the 30k service?

I need to get on some sort of service schedule but I'm not even certain where the car sits in that regard. I'd feel stupid doing the 30k service only to find out they did it before putting the car up for sale.

Any way to look this up, or should I go to the dealer I got it from and just ask?

Found this. Will probably still call the dealer to find out what was done.

They are supposed to do a number of things, but I've seen many times where the dealer just does the common stuff and calls it a day. I'd change all the fluids just to be safe if I were you. That's your call though. My wife bought her RSX certified pre-owned from an Acura dealer and I actually requested a copy of the certification process and it showed an oil change and replacing rear brake pads. I found several things in their contract they are supposed to do that they did not do and I made them do it!

In the end, its your car though and if on an automatic RSX daily driver I will take there word (maybe) but on a sports car I'm going to change the common stuff just to be safe! Your call . . .

some dealers don't even do anything. I went to a few honda dealers to look at certified cars and 1 dealer i found a car with the check engine light on and they said it will be fixed before someone takes the car, another dealer the car battery was dead and the heat sheild was rattling. how do dealers show cars like this. 150pt inspection my ass

You haev to remember it is a 150 point inspection, they found all those things, they just did not fix them.

I would guess that the 30k service was not performed since the car has not reached 30k yet. I hate to be negative, but they are going to do the least that they HAVE to, to sell it as CPO.

I talked to the service guys after I traded in my RSX Type S - he told me the only thing they did to mine was change the brake pads and called it a day. I just had the oil changed 2 weeks prior at the same dealer, so they knew the age of the oil.

I may be thick but anytime I have purchased a vehicle I have always done all the fluids right away to start my own schedule. I don't count on what anyone tells me and it is a good oportunity to have a mechanic take a look. Put new oil into it and drive it for a couple of months, change the oil again and send it away for an inspection.

When I bought CPO I was told it had all new fluids. Upon draining the engine/tranny/diff it was apparent they did nothing.

Buyer beware

The "certified" car I looked at before I bought mine elsewhere had to be the rattiest S2000 I've ever seen.

I'd change all the fluids just to be safe.

my s2k came certified used from honda. but. it came with a blown head gasket and was pretty low on coolant. i was overheating on the drive home. i thought it just wasnt completely filled with coolant from when it was serviced so i filled it and moved on. i was stationed 1000 miles away immediately after purchasing the car. long story short, i wasnt able to drive the car much and work on it due training/work and moving. by the time i tried to go to honda to fix it, the warranty was up.

certified used imo, from personal experience, is just hype.
