honda losing on s2k?
Does anyone know if the dealers are making anything on the s2k with all these people selling at invoice? As far as I know there is no dealer hold back for profit afterwards? Are we all so cheap that we squeak when we walk and cant pay a grand over invoice.
The S is an enthusiats' car, and we want it for the right price!
All cars that I have purchased, have always been negotiated to below invoice.
Not everyone is willing to pay overhead for cars...

It is virtually impossible to determine the dollar amount of profit a dealer earns from a single car. Simply put the cost of the car for the dealership is only one of the many costs that the dealership has to cover during a given time period to be profitable (everything from salaries to the light bill). In the end, the dealership isn't gonna last too long if they aren't turning a profit.
So the answer to your question is, who cares? If dealerships are selling a car at or below their cost, it's probably because it's costing the dealership too much money to keep that particular model in inventory. Maybe they rather get rid of the S2000s cheaply so they can have a couple more Accords or Ridgelines on the lot which they can sell for more profit.
Only the dealership management know that answer.
One thing is for sure. The strategy of the dealerships in Columbia, SC is to hold onto the few S2000s they do receive until they find a sucker. When I bought mine, they wouldn't budge below sticker. I drove to Charlotte and got a great deal. But the Columbia dealerships do sell their S2000s for sticker.
Different strategies.

Yeah, besides dealerships, it makes no business sense for Honda to continue making something that's losing money... unless it's purpose is to simply keep the factory workers at japan employed...
Both Insight and NSX weren't selling that well... maybe if the Japan factory get too busy with making the Fit, perhaps they can finally forget about the S2k.
Anyway, I'm sure Honda's not losing money on the S2k. If they're really willing to lose money in order to sell some sports car to maintain its sporty image... surely they wouldn't be selling the NSX at such a high price back then. Price for NSX also steadily increased as sales number goes down... Same cannot be said for the S2k, right?

There is plenty of holdback on an S2000.
If they tell you there is no hold back, this is just another
line they feed you. Just like, "Buy it now. It's the last year."
Yeah, right! There is a vast difference between "invoice" and dealer "cost". "Invoice" means absolutely nothing.
