Honda S2000.... and the "new" Civic Si??
I just read the review in Car and Driver of the new Civic Si. It's slower than the Ford Focus SVT. Okay, now..... go back and read that again, because it probably didn't sink in the first time.
I don't understand. I had a 2000 Civic Si before my S2000. and I loved it!! Now the S2000 is the culmination of beauty, performance, and value in the honda line. I mean, you know there is nothing more rushing than carving curves like an F1 driver, and hearing the roar of 9,000rpms as every car in your rear view gets smaller. I love the S2000. But I am so disappointed in the new Civic Si. It became a smoother, slower, and more rouded out version of .... well I dont know. And where's that kick of the VTEC??? And how about the high revs that us honda lovers know and love?
Sorry to gripe, but I just can't believe Honda went from the S2000.... and followed it up with letting down all the honda enthusiasts with a very disappointing hatch.

even there are both Honda, but the new Civic Si are made in UK and design by a different group of people then the S2000.
the new Civic Si went soft compare to the last one is because different market.
the new one is primarily for European market as a balance economy car that compare to 206, 307, Polo, Golf.

Yep, big let down. I went to the Motor Trend new car show yesterday in Btown and saw the 2002s and one 2003. A Suzuka Blue S2000 was there and folks were climbing (literally, in bad taste all) over it. Funny how the folks there knew absolutely nothing about the car. But I digress... the Suzuka Blue color looked better in person than in pictures. It's still a bit too light for me, but looked good none the less.
The new Civic SI was there too but on a revolving platform that we weren't allowed to venture upon (other car makers allowed folks on their platforms!). In any event, the side view of the new SI looks pretty good as does the back. The front view makes the car look like a mini-mini-van (Odessey). As for the enemic motor, well I agree, for some reason that's NEVER been explained by American Honda we get the base K20A motor with HX style Vtec. (one intake opening at low revs and both intakes opening at 'high' revs). I.e., the basic two lobe, not three lobe, HX Vtec. Oh yeah I forgot it has i-Vtec where the intake timing is varied. Big whoop.
There is reportedly some light at the end of the tunnel. Motor Trend reports that a 200HP, six speed variant will be here NEXT year.
Equally disappointing is the bigger RSX (Taller). Gone is the ground hugging pocket rocket Integra, replaced with a bigger, heavier, taller, kinder and gentler RSX.
The only car Honda has with ANY excitement is the S2000. The rest have been dumbed down to vanilla blandness. Crowds were just NOT present at the Honda display area. Folks were definitely looking at the Hondas, and getting into the cars, etc. but the mood was very subdued. This was in stark contrast to other manufacturers that were swamped and folks were clearly excited about the products.

Quite frankly I'm very disappointed with the direction Honda is going.... the one reason I buy a Honda is because I don't like GM yet of late Honda seem to be heading toward a collision course with GM. I was hoping to buy another Honda of similar styling to my Prelude - but it seems there is nothing else Honda can offers except the S2000
sad for my bank account...good for my feet

Well i HOPE HONDA hears the voices of it's buyers and enthusiasts. It may take a 200hp variant to bring them back to contention here in the U.S. I guess i'm glad I have my S2000. I just hope they don't "dumb" that one down too. Well, it looks like us S2000 owners will just have to carry the rest of the enthusiasts through the rough times with Honda's current flag ship. lol.
