I think the Inline 6 had it's day.. that was the early-mid 90's.
The best 6's nowadays are all V configuration.
Just the way it is, coming from a former Skyline GTR owner.
Honda should stick with an I4.. look what they did almost 10 years ago now with the F20C. The next generation could have so much more potential.
I can see them easily breaking the 250hp mark in a 4 banger. I wonder what things will come since the release of the turbo engine and SH-AWD of the RDX. I bet some of that tech / ideas will leak out into a sports model or 2.
The S should and likely will always be RWD but a turbo model would be hotness.

Also Turbo is nice but i dont really see it as fitting Honda's image.. though i wouldnt knock it if they did bring out a turbo sports car
Inline 6's balance each other out perfectly. It's one of the best engine designs there is. Hence why BMW doesn't produce a v6. Nissan probably decided to go with the v6 to improve front to rear weight balance.

I disagree.. BMW M3 2001-2006 3.2liter I6 333hp.. incredible motor... 2007+ BMW x35 I6 twin turbo are also very good... Toyota's 2JZ motor.. Nissan's RB series... all of these are well known as performance cars.. most of the V6 engiens that i see are clunkers.. granted that they can work very well as performance as well if designed right.. But Inline6 can be quite potent no matter which time period..

BMW aside.. which is not a brand building either for the future or for anything near a down-market...
The 2JZ is old. It's done. They started building it 18 years ago. (Aristo in Japan I think was the first) I'm not saying they weren't good motors but they are a thing of the past.
RB series.. died with the R34. Amazing engine but not reliably so. Strong though. Same as the 2JZ.. ancient by some standards. They had been using the RB26 since the R32 GTR... 19 years go!
I know my engines, especially Japanese 4's and 6's.
I wasn't much of a V6 fan myself but they really do own the market and I believe they are a better design except for their size.
The VG series was solid start to finish. The VG30DETT was a nightmare to work on but was stout, potent and awesome.
VQ motors are great. Nissan's 3.5 and now 3.7's are awesome motors. Even the GTR has the VR which is pretty much the tits. They must have gone from an I6 to a V6 for a reason. Honda's V6's are all solid, Toyota's too.
Point is, the great I6's are old and by modern standards not superior at all. Great building blocks for projects however.

I wish Honda would put together a nice turbo setup. It would be un-Honda, but if the engineers got to work on the thermal issues, a 2.5L I4 TT could make 400-500hp and make a small car an absolute rocket.
It would be neat if they did something like that to make a 4 cylinder TT 500bhp NSX replacement! Oh well; they don't take suggestions.

why would you twin turbo-charge an I4?
at that.. no factory turbo-4 is going to ever make that power out of the box. that's a lot of boost to be running on a car that has a warranty. stupid imho.
.. or 90 grand.
