Honda Transmission Fluid (MTF) vs GM Syncromesh
Hey guys,
I'm a recent owner of a 2004 black s2000 and I absolutely love it. I'm actually one of those who went from an ITR to the s2000. Anyways .... I just wanted to give you guys my impression on those two fluids.
When I first bought the car, I had all the fluids changed out (oil, tranny, diff). For the tranny I put in GM Syncromesh Friction modified and it was great only after the tranny/fluid was warmed up. I had a little 2nd gear notchiness when it was cold, but I've had that ever since I got the car. All gears were alot smoother after a long drive and I'm guessing because the fluid had time to warm up.
Then someone told me about Honda's new MTF. So about a thousand miles later I replaced it with Honda's stuff it was absolutely great. The 2nd gear notchiness was still there when cold, but it went away quicker. On the bottle it specifically says it helps deal with colder weather so I guess it is true since the notchiness went away faster. Also the shifting was alittle smoother than GM, but not by that much.
My would def. recommend honda's new MTF over GM syncromesh. I know there's alot of difference in opionion, but I thought I might as well throw mine in just incase it helps somoene else.

glad someone reviewed this. i cant find a fluid i like. i've been through oem(old oem), amsoil, specialty formulations mtl-p and i think the oem performed better than the others. i was about to try gm before the new oem.

i tried the new mtf and it seemed to make things a little notchier for some reason?maybe it was just that i changed out the fluid just before the freezing cold weather hit chicago and a lot can be contributed to the cold but at this point i am not sure. its also really hard to get my car in reverse when cold now after change (have a broken hand and wrist so that might not help either)
i will change fluid agian in the summer when i put summer tires back on and write another opinion then.
other than mine i think every post ive read pertaining to the new mtf is positive- maybe im just a critic.
Honda MTF FTW
