HONDA- what a disappointment...
I hate to break it to you, but almost all the S2000 pictures in the brochure for 2001 were computer generated. Switching color consists of altering the color in the model and re-rendering it.
BTW, next time you see the front bumper of the S2000 in one of those brochures, look for the tow hook panel. Can't find it eh?
Also notice how smooth the tire sidewalls are ... where's the usual writing? Then there's the too-perfect reflected lighting ... I could go on and on about why I think the pictures are, in general, CG.
Don't get me wrong, it's bloody good CG

Hey hoof- I hate to break it to you but
I'm well aware of the fact that the images were computer generated, in fact PhotoShop is a computer program.
...they used mostly old photos of the S2000 and then tried to create the new colors and the new features in PhotoShop.

I didn't mean to imply anything Triple-H
I, personally, don't know how they make their brochures. There are many different methods of making brochures, I was merely speculating that the new brochures may have been re-rendered from scratch. You implied that they had photos of some sort that they modified, I merely suggested that they may have been rendered from the ground up, with the same camera angles, same polygon mesh, but changed the color of the polys. In fact, altering a photograph in photoshop isn't nearly as easy to not look "faked" than a complete re-render from the original 3d model, especially due to all the lighting issues.
My first take on your comment was that there were photographs of real S2000s used in the 2001 brochure. I disagreed with this idea because of the flaws in the S2000 in the pictures as compared to the one that sits in my parking space. Since I deal with 3d rendering (war simulators actually) for a living, and deal with 2d vs 3d rendering/modification, my conclusion was that a 3d approach to changing the color look of the S2000 seemed the most likely case. That's all

I really wish you guys would realise that there are other countries out there and that the culprit is not Honda, but AHM. The Aus brochure is just beautiful
.
Oh, and if anyone has access to a 3D model of an S I would dearly love to have a copy.

hoof- no problem, I'm very easy going!!!
Advertising, photography, printing and production are my field, at least the one I get paid for. I suspect what was photographed was prototypes and first off models that are like you noticed- not like the real thing. Then they just worked the image files to death in a program like PhotoShop. A good computer artist can do amazing things; I buy their services often. I was just shocked that new photos were not taken for things like the rear taillights.
AusS2000- you are so correct, I sometime loose sight of the fact that we are world wide here. In fact I have long said you guys have a great HONDA web site, I love the start button that made the engine rev sound!
And with a web site as cool as that, I guess I am not surprised you have such a good brochure. AHM does have it easy when it comes to selling the S2000!

Honda has a way of doing things. . .
I was at the dealer the other day and a salesman was so excited to see me as he had a book detailing the '02 release of ALL Hondas!
He said. . ."Now there's a hardtop!!!" You can ony imagine my reaction!
Then I see the book. . .right there in black ink. . .it states:
New Alloy Wheels
I have no idea what they mean by this. . .I thought for a moment it may be the introduction of the Modulo rims. . .but it pictured the same exact rim. . .
I wonder if the rim sizes are going to be different?
BTW, I do not believe that the US models of S2000's will have the chrome headlight units. . .only the Japanese spec S2000's!
I think it looks sharp!

Sorry, there's no way that those pictures are computer generated ... there's way too much detail, the lighting is too realistic, and the amount of time it would take to model the car is just far exceeds the cost of just taking picture of the car.
This isn't to say that it hasn't been digitally modified, however, which is a far more likely candidate for what happened. It looks like the colors were in fact just swapped out and the "undesired" lines removed from the car, like the tow hook knockout panel and the markings on the tire sidewalls, as previously mentioned.
