Honda's "Certified" Warranty - Worth it?
Hey everyone - here goes my first post on s2ki ...ahahhaha
So....I don't have an s2k, but but am currently looking to sell my rsx-s for one
Anyways, a few of my friends who have owned s2k's have told me that Honda's "Certification" is a waste of money for the s because it's a 'simple' car ... so not much can go wrong, and if it does ...it will be easy/cheap to fix.
I was just hoping a few of you guys could give me some insight on what you think? How reliable do you think the s is and what would be my biggest concern if I didn't go the "certified" route?
Also a random question - if I were to get a low mileage s, would it still be under Honda's factory warranty? Or is this void after the original owner sells it?
For the record - I don't plan on doing any mods ... at least ... not right away
Thanks!

Honda Certified Cars are better than regular honda warranty!
They go through a 150-point inspection. So anything wrong it's either replaced or fixed. All Certified Honda's that I know have a 7 years/ 100,000 miles warranty.
All other Honda's are 3 years/36 months warranty.
Certified is cheaper and has better warranty. I work at honda and recommend a certified car anyday.

i can only hope my certified used S2K is good to go.
but yeah, we opted for the certified warranty, and i'd say it's worth it.
nothing beats having security... if your claim is honored.
Hey, funny how i too got the S2 after my RSX-S was considered a total loss. I bought mine at a honda dealer and it was certified. The extended warranty was like 1400 more i believe. To me thats not much so i went for it. You never know what can happen.
To me, I consider it a gamble. So it cost 1400 for an extended warranty to extend it for another 4 years? That is $350/yr, not bad. Within that four years, if you have repairs that are over 1400 then you saved cash.
If you already faced engine/transmission issues, this may be a good bet for you. If you baby the car, I'd just pocket the 1400 and wait until something occurs and use it to pay for repairs.
Honda's are reliable and all their cars should easily reach the 100k mark without issue, of course there are cases out there that state differently.
I've also heard of people having the certified warranty and not get the repairs that were needed. I'd take those cases into consideration as well.

I almost bought into the warranty with my new car but it was something I wanted to think about first. In the end, I decided the program was designed as a money maker for the warranty company and the car dealers who sell these policys and also decided that maybe the slight gamble was probably worth not buying into these programs. Overall, if they are making money you are losing money.
There is probably no exact answer that will cover everyone. For those who are very adverse to any risk at all, the warranty may be a good and must have purchase.
