Default Hondata intake manifold gasket

Can anyone please explain the pros and cons on the Hondata intake manifold gasket? How's it work and whats it do? I remember reading somewhere that is gives you a weird idle. Is that correct?

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Go drive your car hard for an hour...then open the hood and put your bare hand on your intake manifold. How long can you keep your hand there? After my IMG install, I can do that and rest my hand uncomfortably on the manifold for several minutes or more.

The benefit is not so much that it adds hp, but rather allows you to keep more of what you have longer when the car is hot.

Biggest con is that it is a pain in the butt to install.

Thanks for the input. Does everything work fine with it installed? I mean the engine wont idle or act differently will it?

I haven't noticed any weird idling at all. Installation is horrible with this mod, prepare to spend 200 dollars or so including cost of the gasket.

Intake temps are drastically lowered, I recommend this mod

The $200 he said was for the cost of the gasket plus the labor to install it I believe (assuming you don't do it yourself).

Just do it yourself...remember where everything comes off from, and put it all back where it came from. Those of us that have done it can help you out. It is defenately worth it, especially if you sit in traffic at all...it almost completely gets rid of the heat soak bog. ( A vented hood finishes what the IMG leaves off, but most are too scared to cut holes in their hood.)

I consider it an advanced procedure. Don't do this as a first project. If you don't have the right tools, it's impossible.

It's worth $200 to have someone else do it as long as they do a good job.

How mechanically inclined are you? Do you know which way to turn a wrench? You will need a 12mm swivel socket 1/4" drive with 2 6" extensions to get to the bottom intake manifold bolts, and you will have to drill out the steel bracket mounting holes that attach to the underside of the manifold. Pull the fuse for the fuel pump, then turn over the motor. Once it stalls out (or never fires), you should be at 0 psig in your fuel rail. Jack up the drivers side of the car, and unbolt the tall bracket that is attached to the bottom of the manifold. Lower the car back down, disconnect the vacuum hoses (mark which ones go where), remove your fuel rail, injectors, and air pump. Unbolt the manifold from the steel bracket just behind the throttle body on the bottom (it helps to take off the throttle body, but be careful of the gasket), then unbolt the 10 12mm bolts that hold the manifold to the head. slide the old gasket off, insert the new one, drill out the 2 mounting holes on the angled steel bracket that attaches to the manifold just under and behind the throttle body, then re-assemble the intake. Use petroleum jelly to lubricate the o-rings on the injectors to re-insert them into the manifold and rail...you do not want to tear those. You should also replace the fuel line crush washers, just as a preventative measure. Negcamber picked them up when we did ours, he has the part number.

Good luck, and remember, if you need any questions answered, ask here, or PM me and I'll call you.

Nate

Thanks a lot Nate. How long did it take you to do all of this? I'll let you know if I have any questions once I get my gasket.
