How bad is it really when you grind a gear?
Sometimes when I'm tired, like after a hard workout at the gym, I'll take my foot off the clutch right before I get the stick in gear. I've only done it 2 or 3 times, but I'm wondering how bad it really is. Does it do permanent damage to the gears?
its bad when u know it grinding and u just jam it in there anways. whenever(if) i grind, i immediately throw it in neutral and try again. its always my fault anyways(like when im tired after a hard day of work).
Every time you hear that grinding noise there is some damage being done. It's impossible to determine the exact amount with each grind. A grind at a higher rpm with the clutch completely disengaged versus a low rpm almost completely engaged clutch will do different amounts of damage. 2 or 3 times at probably not too significant an rpm (I'm assuming) probably isn't going to do anything too significant unless you just let it sit there grinding.
If you grind, take it out to neutral and try again. Also if it doesn't go in the first time, don't force it in, take it out to neutral. If you force it, it will grind.
Someone make a video of their hands and grip used for the 1st to 2nd shift very closely, I would love to see it.
