The problem with pulling off the top of the airbox is that your intake sucks in hot engine air and the timing retards giving you lousy throttle response (bogging). The whole purpose of a COLD air intake is to eliminate this nasty side-effect.

There are whole threads talking about how the intake temps have a huge impact on HP.

Which is why I stated that it will cost a few BHP - but it's winter over here so the hot air isn't an issue at the moment, and removing the lid is free

I'm not suggesting it as a permanent solution.

Cheers ! I didn't see the UK forum before. I know about cold/warm air effect. I've bought the filter and i'm going to trawl these forums to see if I can channel some fresh air directly towards the intake. I think I have read that the aem v.2 is a short intake although the tubing (from filter to inlet) looks quite long.
I was going to have a look in that big standard air box, wouldn't removing the lid by-pass the filter altogether?

Would dual pipes by your only choice? If not I'd recommend the T1R single pipe, it makes noise, but not annoyingly loud, a good sound. Also, like SpeedXRacer already stated, you will shave off alot of weight, and gain alot more power as well.

Nice Pipe ..SJR

What did you do about the ridge in the bumper where the old pipe used to be? or is it a body kit?
I didn't really want to alter the looks of the car that dramatically (a money thing)

I took the airbox cover off today. WOW what a difference (noise wise) can't believe It took 3 days to get round to doing that! (cheers neil) Can't wait for a propper CAI !!
I have always found a good induction noise a bit addictive, it only it could make that noise when cruising through town without having to floor the throttle (bit like a TVR does)

you are in the UK. it rains like crazy in the UK. you need to be ESPECIALLY careful if you're going to install a CAI, as you can easily hydrolock and destroy your motor.

i prefer the double exhausts myself, certainly not for performance but just for the look.
