How can saving a few pounds possibly be important or noticeable in performance?

I'd love to see the ads for that.

"A flat in turn 9? Get back to the pits in record time! The SSR Comp high-performace, deep-dish donut!"

<cut to slow-motion clip of S2000 drifting with a donut on the outside rear wheel...>

EDIT: if anybody is nuts enough to try this (Krazik??)... like put your S in a drift around Andretti hairpin at Laguna Seca... I've got a great video camera+tripod to document it... talk about classic footage. (funny stuff to show the mechanic who replaces your diff.)

Well I've been on the Atkins diet for a month and lost over 5kg so far. My topspeed on the Ring has somehow increased by 4kmh, but maybe that's because I can carry more speed out of the preceeding corner!

The other thing to keep in mind is that weight savings is useful across the entire rpm range.
