How COULD they???
I have the agree with you ... Steve. The only positive factors I see is the rear glass window and tweeters. The rest are indeed quite disappointing. Oh well, like I've said ... What the hell is Honda doing at R&D these days? They're either producing ugly new cars or turning current ones into something unspeakable of.
The interior color is something I could do without but other than that it really isn't that bad. However the Monte Carlo Blue is far better looking and I'm pissed that Honda would give the US some an inferior color blue and hold out on the best.
I agree in some ways with Steve too. The chrome trim looking things on the inside? Blech. The shift knob also looks like it's been cheapened a lot! I'd much rather have my (soon to be discontinued) Silverstone 2001 than any 2002.
I'm hoping the shift knob, which appears to be semi-leather, will look good in real life. Since I don't normally drive with racing gloves; that and the glass I consider to be improvements.
As for the new color and interior color -- I agree totally with the original poster. It's not at in keeping with the original design team concepts. Who were they talking to for this idea -- the same greedy dealers who have been trying to rip off the customers.

Well we don't get MC blue over here, so that's a negative right off the bat.
Other than that, I think the 2002 model is better than the previous ones. The interior looks better with hardly any weight increase, the stereo should be a lot better, and the glass rear window is one less headache to deal with.
So, all in all, two thumbs up for the 02.

Honda do seem to be trying to make it more appealing to the main stream buyer judging by the new colours etc.
I think that this will have the opposite effect for the people who have already bought one for the performance/handling etc. They may well look at it as a "softening" of the car.

Remember what happened w/ the original 240Z an RX-7? They started life as great, lightweight, basic sports cars, then grew fatter and more luxurious over the years (anybody remember how the 280ZX would talk to you?), and their originators lost sight of their creations' original appeal. I sure hope history doesn't repeat itself w/ the S2000!
