How COULD they???
Thanks for all your comments everyone. I guess most of us on this board bought the car for what it is - and what it represents and that's why we enjoy it so much. Personally, I think the S2000 has been pretty well perfect all along: I've never really had any gripes. I didn't want an MX-5 (Miata), nor a Z3 and the equivalent Porsche (at > double the price here) was just ridiculous. I just think it's a great car and I'd hate to see its essential essence 'diluted' just so that it appeals to other market segments.
It's a classic!

I think the phrase is "Jumped the Shark," and refers to the Happy Days episode when Fonzie jumped a shark-infested pool in the middle of Al's parking lot with his bike. The episode's buffoonery marked the beginning of the end of "Happy Days." It also sparked the current catchphrase describing the "Fat Elvis" point of any long-running TV series and, in this case, the current postulations regarding Honda's roadster.

I think Honda did a good job bringing out the glass window and better sound system. I don't really like the blue color nor the blue interior.
The only thing I'd probably get for my car that the new 2002 model has would be the dead pedal. Even though the glass window is nice, I usually drive with my top down.

i think the vast majority of the bitching is the color and not the other relatively small (and they are small) changes to the car. i am glad that honda listens to us with the glass rear, center console, etc. a light blue interior and exterior combo is just way too much. SteveUCI and i had a short conversation regarding it and i thought it just smacks of pandering to the masses but he disagrees (i think). and while i cannot totally fault honda as they are in it for a buck, i think that there is more value in keeping it somewhat limited and the colors basic. if the idea was to pander to the fairer gender, i think that that was a mistake...a big one. i encourage all of the ladies out there to check out the S2000 and hopefully purchase one, but there should not be a "malibu barbie" edition for this to happen.
and it is jump the shark...although it is premature for this assessment for our S2000, look at where arthur fonzerelli is today...
