Default How dangerous is it with no side airbags?

Hey guys, my wife wants to pick up an s2000, and I told her to let me do a little research for her... I understand the S has no side airbags, but how dangerous does that make it? Has anyone ever been involved in a side-crash and can tell me what happened (what speed, damage to you, damage to car, etc.) I know it has a 5-star crash rating for the side but i prefer hearing from people with experience Thank you all so much in advance!!!

The fact is no airbag is going to stop a bumper from hitting your head when a lifted truck runs you over.

Best use google and research this some more. I wouldn't have my wife daily driving this car. She doesn't pay enough attention.

"Dangerous" is a relative term, no amount of passive safety features will protect you from poor judgement or circumstance beyond your control. Personally, the lack of the most modern safety features in the S is compromise I'm willing to make for the pleasure of driving an affordable sports car. In this price range I could also have bought a new Civic Si I suppose, but that's just not me. Bottom line, from where I sit the S is not dangerous.

I got t boned as i was going 45 going through an intersection( my car with the bright blue HIDs was hard to see?). I lived to talk about it lol. The S held up nicely honestly. I was sore but i was fine. No frame damage. Just a new door and fender and wheel and some suspension pieces.

You do know that automobiles have been around for years without side airbags, and people, some how, still survive crashes! Just wear your seat belt, and stop worrying about whether or not the car is safe/unsafe due do it having/not having side airbags!!

S2000 has a better side crash test rating than the Z4 which is equipped with side airbags.

My main other choice is the (coupe) 350z w/ side airbags... would that be a safer alternative?
