The more you idle with the engine cold, the worse it is on your engine. The engine is taking longer to warm up and that's not good. Start it up, let it idle for 10 seconds or so and drive under 3,000rpm until the entire vehicle is warmed up (engine, transmission, differential, etc.) Sitting in your driveway with the idling is doing nothing to warm up your diff, transmission, and the rest of your powertrain.
This is what I have found from searching other car forums also.
Are the US AP2 temperature gauges different to the European AP1 gauges because I keep reading people mention 3 bars as normal running temperature but my European MY07 always shows 7. I thought the gauges in both the AP2 and the European AP1 were the rainbow gauges so why is the number of bars different?

I don't know about the EUDM cars, but NADM cars had a dash change in MY04. The "three bars" only applies to pre MY04 cars (at least here in North America). If you have the newer dash layout, then 3-bars doesn't apply.

That's what I thought, so 3 bars = 7 bars.

I'm really not very familiar with the newer instrument cluster.
