How do you hold the shift knob to shift
With all this talk about "gun grip", voodoo, stock/titanium shift knobs, I have a question: How do you hold the shift knob when you shift? Do you hold it like a baseball (hand on top) or do you hold it like a baseball-bat (hand wrapping the side).
I find the shape of the knob will suit some type of hold habits better -- for example, the voodoo knobs are probably more suitable for "baseball" type of holding. The stock/titanium knob from Honda can be held in either fashion comfortably.
Another factor is the location of the shifter. When driving an Accord or a Civic, I find that it is easier to rest the hand on top of the shifter because it is lower. But with the S2000, the shifter is higher and I tend to rest my elbow on the console and therefore hold the knob like a baseball-bat. So for me, the voodoo knob probably would not be suitable because it is too "fat" to grab from the side. Other opinions?

I think its all a matter of personal preference and how you naturally hold the shifter. For me, I ordered the Voodoo knob since I hold it like a baseball. It will work to my advantage that way. Chris S recently picked up one as well - pearl - looks great too. Can't wait till mine comes in.
I noticed Sondra shifts with the gun grip - so the stock shifter, not even a Momo shifter, would be appropriate for her driving style. She has long nails, and she says they get in the way if she was to hold it like a baseball bat.

I've actually switched my grips quite a bit on my lude. First I hold it like a baseball bat. Then I hold it like the baseball bat but do backhands when I shift from 2nd to third and so on.
Now. I DON'T place my hand on the shift knob at all. I only take my hand off the wheel when I need to shift. (course I don't always do that but when I do when I'm in racing mood"
I shift with a cupped hand but it's a baseball grip I assume.

I hold it like a bat being swung down with one hand (ie palm on the side). But one trick I learned is I put the palm on the left side of the shifter (thumb down) when going from 5th to 6th. I never accidentally get 4th shifting that way.
