WOW i would have thought that 99.99999% of the human population would know about that legendary code for Nintendo's Contra...
Sorry, I outgrew video games years ago. But, since I'm nearing retirement, I may just take it up again.

retirement...??? I doubt it! What the hell was this post about???

Slam it into third the same way you would ANY other car...

These kids....drive, drive, and then drive a little more...third will be easy. Up from second, 10 degrees southwest equals 3rd...

It was xviper or Wisconsins2k that posted about "pre-loading" the shifter.
IOW you allready start to press the shifter the way you want to go (or alomost or even completely pull it out of the gear you are in) before the clutch is fully disengaged.
That also "pre-loads" your brain, so the actual shift goes better, with less fault.
It is almost like you practiced it (in your mind) just before you actually shift.

I also push it forward between thumb and forefinger when doing a 2nd to 3rd shift.
IMO the 2nd to 3rd is the hardest to get absoluty right, because you have to either rely on the centering spring or your own guidance.
It is also an important shift if you want to keep the momentum accelerating 0-100 km/h (with 4.57's).

Don't feel bad, Dave... I've never even heard of Contra, and I'm just a spring chicken!

My secret shifting code is "Klatu Parada Nicto." I suspect the 20 and 30-somethings around here won't know that one!

1 - 2: Pull down with palm facing me
2 - 3: Push diagnally -- let the shifter "guide" me ack to the neutral position a little
3 - 4: "back hand style" with palm facing passenger, without pushing the shifter out
4 - 5: just shove the thing hard to the right with palm facing down?
5 - 6: "back hand style" with palm facing passenger, while push the shifter out

I think that's how I shift? At least's how I shift in cars with longer throws. Never studied myself carefully while I'm driving the S ... I guess it doesn't matter too much, since the throw is so short anyway

I only shift the odd gears 1-3-5 and leave the evens alone. I figure if the odds wear out I will still have the evens to drive with. It avoids all of this messy 2-3 crap as well.
