If I'm not mistaken, the pre-MY04's had brass synchros.

There were some transmission problems with the MY00's thru the MY03's. The MY04's haven't been 100% trouble free but my impression is that they've gotten better. My MY04 has had some notchiness in the 1>2 and 2>3 shifts when cold but I'm told this is nothing to worry about. Even when brand new, it all but disappeared when the transmission warmed up and has improved "significantly" whether warm or cold now that I've got some miles on it. I'm approaching 2000 miles right now and it just keeps getting better.

From what I've read, the weak links with modified S's are the clutch and diff.

Thanks for the Info, I need to know this, for my RWD conversion to my 94 civic.

Apparently I'm not the first one to do the RWD conversion using the F-series from the S2K.

In a 5thgen civic that is.

I'm just gonna use the transmission.

Any of you guys pushing 400-500 + HP?

you must have to gut the interior and rear frame to put that in. I can't imagin the Civic's frame being rigid after all of that.

There's really not much to add. A number of owners, especially the early years, reported either a notchy feeling or actual grinding when shifting in the lower gears since the car was introduced. Others report it is the smoothest shifter ever. Soon after its intro, Honda issued Technical Service Bulletin 00-055 (Transmission/Driveline) covers Grinding When Shifting into 2nd Gear. The fix reportedly worked for some but not everyone. The early '00 cars needed a small change to the sleeve to make the synchros work a little harder. Cars after VIN VT006255 have the new parts. Mixed reports continued on the

Good luck with the project. You should post pics when it's done.
