I came around a turn too quick and punched it.
ummm.....if you're just drifiting through a turn at high speed and you all of the sudden "punch it" you're pretty much done for no matter what. In the previous case mentioned in the slight wet, that situation is recoverable if you nudged the gas a little bit and maintained the pedal while countersteering.

I think it's great that Kryptonik and Lo Cache can give honest no BS accounts of their experiences. It also indicates that people are actually reading and benefiting from this thread. We all stand to benefit whatever our driving standard.

People need to realise that the Driving Test is an indication of having attained a MINIMUM standard of competence. In the UK for example, learner drivers can't go on the motorway, even under instruction.. ridiculous, as it is one of tne most dangerous environments in which to drive, just because a few simple rules on lane discipline are not observed. When the vast majority of drivers have never had any instruction in motorway driving is it any wonder that driving UK motorways can be a worrying exprience.

Similarly, you may never have any instruction in night driving and depending on the time of the year you take yoiur instruction, never experience snow or ice.

The track is the place to go to learn to drive quicker, and probably the ONLY place IMO, to have any chance of learing to control a high speed spin. Most people would be better served by some form of road based further isntruction, Defensive Driving, Advanced Driving etc.

I suggest finding a big empty parking lot in the rain or snow.

BTW the way you control a "snap spin" is not to get in one to begin with.

If you snap past 90

Just this afternoon I pulled up behind a very smart red Z3 at light controlled crossroads. He was indicating to turn left as I was, and prior to coming to a halt had 'dialled in' pretty well all the steering turn necessary to make his left turn. (I could see his front offside wheel well turned outwards) Whilst waiting for the lights to change he kept intently looking in his driver's mirror at me sitting behind him. As the lights changed, he actually jumped the green fractionally and stomped the accelerator really hard. The back of the Z3 swung alarming out to the right, nearly a full 90 degees, before he managed to get some forward motion, but as he drove off he had to steer away from the nearside kerb which he'd ended up nearly facing!

Another powerful rear wheel drive sports car!!
The road surface was dry!
