Default How have gas prices affected you?

I was just curious to how gas prices have affected you?

Many of us DD our cars and they are required to run premium gas which is getting quite expensive. Have you decided to keep your S as a weekend driver?

Are you staying out of Vtec or being a little easier on the throttle?

My cars are my one vice the one thing I splurge on I would rather cut back in other areas and enjoy them.

When I'm DDing the S I've always done little things to try and maximize the mileage. I know where the long red lights are, and I'll turn the engine off if I get caught by them. I'm pretty light on the throttle anyway for my commute, because there's usually enough traffic that having a lead foot really doesn't make a difference.

However, I also conserve fuel by conserving as much momentum as possible around corners

And sometimes, when I'm in the mood, I still go to my favorite twisty road and completely thrash it.

Driving my S everyday keeps me sane so I dont drive it differently at all due to gas prices. I fill up about once a week which cost me about $45 total with NJ gas prices now. I drive it easily most of the time and dont hit vtec much around town due to speedlimits but once I get on the highway I open it up for fun. I'll cut down on other things before I cut down on my S.

^ so right, Gas in Chicago has gone up as well, and i havent really driven it any different, still going on cruises and meets and what not wasting gas haha. but the S is so much fun, i just cant cut back on it.

I have two cars... a 2000 Celica GTS (gets 30mpg) and a 2007 S2000 (gets 20mpg) - both run premium.

I drive my S2000 daily regardless of the extra expense. It's just worth it to me. If I ever get to the point where I can't afford the gas, I might as well just sell the car.

I just paid $4.37 a gallon to fill my car and it was about $50 total. its killing me and i have another car but i love my S so much i cant help but to drive her. I do a lot of coasting in neutral down long hils on the highway.

But seriously, this gas BS is getting out of control. im all about the free market but speculation has to somehow be curbed.

The world is changing and cheap gas is gone forever. Prices are only going to go up from here. Like it or not, toys like the S2000s we drive are only going to get more expensive to own and operate.

Gas is insane these days. With that said, it hasn't changed how I drive at all while in the S. As someone else posted, if you can't afford the gas to enjoy our cars, no point keeping the car. Maybe it helps for me though that the S only comes out on nice weather so I don't really daily it. I always try to fill up from half a tank so I dont feel like I'm spending so much on gas. I figure, I'll enjoy it as much as I can until either it craps out or I just cant afford it. Hopefully neither one happens.

MPG on S2000 is not that bad at all....Take any other high performance car or so popular SUVs in USA. My buddy just bought a Land Rover that gets like 10-15 MPG. < I told him, he is insane......

If gas prices make you think twice about driving S2k and hitting Vtec, then you have no business owning a performance car.

And if it makes you feel better, think of Europe where gas prices are like $8-9/gal

and I can even through in a tip: Stop&Shop and Shell work together and if u spend $100 per month in S&S you get 10c off per gal., spend $200 per month get 20c off. (dont know about $300 etc). In my case it also just happens that Shell next to my condo is the cheapest brand name gas station near by.
