How to launch a s2000

Read in my above post about the tires catching AFTER interial has started. Parts, especially well tubed ones, tend to want to stay in motion, not screech to a stop.

it all has to do with the full weight and strain of getting the car moving. with no wheel spin, all that weight, strain, and inertia is being put on the diff and drivetrain.
with wheelspin, the wear and tear goes to the wheels and your limited slip does some work. once the tires catch, there is nowhere NEAR the strain on the diff and drivetrain since the car is ALREADY in motion (it already has inertia in its favor).
Okay, I'm pretty new to manual myself (ie my s2k is my first stick). I've got it mostly figured out (though heel-toe is kind of awkward with the pedals as they are).
The AP2 has a clutch delay valve... will the sidestepping of the clutch be affected by this delay? Will that make the clutch slip a bunch (in comparison to AP1) before it catches or will it just sort of pause before catching?
Is an updated flywheel and clutch better or worse for the drivetrain's longevity when doing launches?
Any insight is appreciated!

. If you have an AP2, you should disable the delay if you are to drag launch. If you do not, the delay will fry the clutch at that high of an RPM launch. Honda, I think, installed it to prevent owners from destroying their differentials, instead they just kill the clutch, which is a less expensive repair. If you have an AP2, I would not disable the delay for warranty reasons. I know Magnusson-Moss prevents voiding of all warranted parts not related to damage, but disabling this will most likely void all warranties related to any mechanical parts downstream from the delay (i.e. - Clutch assembly, transmission, differential, etc.). I am not saying that Honda will void the warranties on those parts, but they might have grounds to do so.
As far as the smell, you probably glazed the clutch (or the delay did). I would avoid high-stress launches with the delay on.
The S2000 clutch is notoriously weak. An aftermarket clutch would help in the long run as well as the short run (IMO). I like the ACT clutch, but cant afford one right now...saving for 4.57's
. As far as the flywheel, an aftermarket (lighter) flywheel, such as Toda or Comptech, will drastically improve throttle response. When my clutch finally goes (probably another 2-3 years) I am getting the ACT clutch and pressure plate assemblies as well as a lightened Comtech flywheel.John
