Good question. Will the S2000 be sold over the next 50 years? IMO, I don't think so. The S2000 will never be a high sales volume nor mass produced vehicle. The S2000 is more of an exclusive (specific purpose) vehicle than the vette which limits its overall marketability.

In the spirit of think globally, act locally; I hope the S2000 stays around for a while and remains a limited production model. Regardless of that, I have every intention of keeping mine for the long haul.

Just as I see an occassional mint condition MGA or Austin-Healey out on the roads, I hope that I'll still be driving my mint S2000 well beyond the year 2022.

I'm planning on driving my S2000 for many years. Honda's last S series lasted a while, but it changed every few years from an S500 through an S800. Hopefully the series, if not the model, will last for a long time.

The answer to how long the S2000 production will last would be: "How long will it be profitable for Honda to keep making this limited production gem?" As a former owner of a 3rd generation twin turbo RX-7, I watched a truly beautiful vehicle go down the tubes production - wise. From approximately 6000 units in 1993 (my year), it dropped to 3000 in 1994 and 1000 in 1995. A lot of the reason for its decline and demise was a wildly rising Japanese yen, which drove the car's price from low $30's up to an unsustainable near $40k. There was also a serious reliability issue, punctuated by a large number of recalls from the manufacturer.
By contrast, the S2000 has sales holding up well, with approximately 9000 in the USA in both 2000 and 2001 model years, and sales at an apparent similar rate for 2002. That should bode well for at least another year or two, especially since the yen is not about to go through the ceiling.
Hmmm, I have an 18 month old granddaughter. Perhaps I can give her a really nice and well-maintained used car at her high school graduation.

My hope is that eventually, it is discontinued. Not only will it add to the price of the car, but also its mystique and rareness!

It would be very cool to be 50, have turned it over to my son, and see it reach the stature of something like the Alpine Tiger or thereabouts.
