Default How long does Honda/Dealers support a model?

When a model comes out say, a S2000 MY '00, how long does Honda/Dealerships usually support the model for before they stop making the parts for it? 10, 15, 20 years? I am sure there will be aftermarket parts, but I am talking about OEM stuff and not being able to go into a dealership to get parts for that specific model etc.

I think there is a way you can check this...
Go to your local Honda dealer and ask for parts for 1996-1997 accord which will be 3 generations old when the 2008 accord comes out.

Then again, the number of accords sold is a lot more than the s2000 so maybe you can ask for 1992-1996 Honda Prelude. It was the second last generation of the prelude. Or 1997-2001 Prelude or 1994-2001 Integra.

P.S. I know for a fact that Honda dealers have 1997-2001 prelude lip kits, spoilers, grilles, etc.. in stock because there is a guy on preludeforums who works at a Honda Dealership and sells OEM parts for a discounted price.

Good Luck. And please update this thread if and when you find out.

I think there is a government mandate that says they have to provide parts for 10 years.

i dont think we should worry about this too much yet since most parts from an ap2 on an ap1 is considered an upgrade except the slave cylinder

If this is correct, if you have a MY '00, you have three more years till 2010 before it becomes obselete in Honda's eyes?

From what I have seen, it is usually a decade after the last model year of that body style. Some times up to 15 years if it was a popular car. With that said, since there are ne major difference between yours and an '03. I think it would be safe to assume you are ok til 2013!

No worries...even if you can't find something at a Honda stealership you'll always be able to find OEM parts elsewhere.

I'd say you're good for another 15 years at least!

That's the government requirement. If Honda can make money on the parts, they will continue to make them beyond that. Like others have said, they have to supply parts at least until 2018 to cover the 2008 models, so you shouldn't have any problem keeping a 2000 model running for a long time.

Fiat left the United States in 1982, but there are still vendors in this country selling OEM parts.

Delorean still has parts avail too. Only thing I'll probably buy in 3-5 years is a new engine to stow away until mine goes.
