Default How to make a stronger diff.

If i were to buy gears from ricks, say the 4.77's, how can i go about making the differential stronger. I don't drag alot, but would like to enjoy a race every now and then. What besides cryo treatment could i do to re-enforce my rear differential. Thnx,

Brandon

Don't Comptech make reinforced end caps for the diff assembly?

Many of the diff failures have been broken end caps resulting in internal carnage.

Yes, they do.

Reinforced Differential Housing (S2000)

$469.95

Developed to help retain the differential
and ring gear from getting shoved out the
back cover. Housing is sold on exchange basis.
Core charge is $370 and will be added to your order.
If you've already broken yours, this core charge will
not be refundable. Photo shows it with the
ring & pinion and differential already put back in.
They are NOT included in this kit.

Other than the Comptech bearing caps and cryogenic treatment there's nothing I'm aware of that you can do. If we could get someone to make a stronger housing, out of a stronger metal, that would be an option.

I wouldn't think you'd need a stronger diff. for different gears. There's no increase in power, just a change in how much gets transferred to the wheels.

I'm not worried about the increase over the previous gears..., i'm worried the S has a weak rear end as is. Just attempting to build a tough car i can have fun with as i please.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. What type of clutch do you have? Do you know what the cause of the failure was? After seeing the gears, how was the contact pattern? Thanks.

If you do have the diff reinforced make sure whoever does it knows what they are doing. If I remember correctly you have to set a certain amount of backlash. If it is not set to spec it will destroy itself.
