How many have VTEC'd in 6th ??
Driving through the California desert on my first S2K road trip I got curious to see at exactly what speed the VTEC would open up in 6th gear. It was at 115mph in my stock '03. I only stayed on the accelorator a moment longer and it was at 120 with what seemed to be plenty of peddle left.
Did it several times on a trip from Sydney to Adelaide (intersate trip abt 1500km mostly through the "Outback"). At 180kmh you don't really need to shift down to overtake trucks
.Stupidest thing I did was pass a truck at that speed with my brother in tow, both of us pull back into our lane only to see that the nearest oncoming car was highway patrol
We then spent the next hr on the side of the road in 45 degree (celcius) heat while they searched the entire car and our luggage for drugs.
137 passing a WRX on the straight stretch between Tumwater and Grand Mound. I also always love the turn onto 101 from the Shelton exit headed to Olympia. I hit 127 there everytime the traffic is free and clear. I mean clear traffic. Both places have nice straights. 127 comes up quick but the 137 takes a little more. Need more torque.
No worries Road rage, here the law pretty much says that if the cops have "reasonable" suspicion that you have illicit drugs or weapons in your car they can search it. In my case the suspicion was reports that we'd been driving quickly for some time and making frequent stops to possibly deal drugs. I seriously question the legitimacy of the drug dealing allegations but at that time the police were cracking down on people running drugs from those particular cities (a considerable problem it would seem), so anyone that was suspicious would be pulled over. And whats more suspicious than an S2000 and a bright yellow volvo travelling through country australia at warp speed driven by two young males of foreign descent
.
In the end no drugs were found and no ticket was issued (Country highway patrol aren't as anal about speeding as most), we were just let off with a very stern warning, so all's well that ends well.
