I love mine. No problems. No oil burn. Rear tires are not going to last long but I am taking the blame for that one.
my car will soon be 1 year old with 12-13k on it. There have been no permanent problems other than the passenger door lite switch!
A few shifts into 2nd have felt notchy, thats about it. The other sports cars in our market seem to have many more problems in general. i'm talking about the corvettes, beemers and porsches.

50k hard miles on my '01, had the window auto-down problem crop up a couple times when I hit 35k, got it fixed under the TSB, haven't seen it since. No other problems. Original clutch lasted very strong even though I got it replaced at 35k miles under TSB-54 for the buzzing on decel (which wasn't that big of an issue to begin with).
Just today I was talking with Back-Cracker, both saying to each other that we can't imagine ever selling our cars. I've had 5 cars and this is the one that I wanna keep forever.

- #4 cylinder failure (major problem)---- new banjo oil bolts on mid year 02-present fixed
- 1st - 2nd gear grind (major problem)-----never had a problem with mine but fixed as well since mid year 01
- premature clutch failure---never had a problem with mine, but I still see this as a wear item
- oil consumption---never had a problem with mine, but consumption is really only in the beginning when the car is breaking in not a big problem if you know how to check your oil
- premature tire wear (no biggy, I can deal with this) --- it's the nature of the hi-perf tire
- premature leather seat wear (not a real big issue to me) --- this is not a problem every bucket leather seat I've owned has developed wear on the support area.
- drivers side power window motor --- never had a problem with mine, but there is a fix
- windshield cracking --- again never had a problem with mine, maybe people follow other cars to closely?
- paint problems --- never had a problem with mine
- low speed handling problems --- this is obviously a driver issue and not the car.
- Dealership's service departments seem to be hard to deal with --- this is dependent on the dealership and the service person you deal with.
Sorry just throwing my 2 cents in like everyone else.

Not to belittle Barry or anyone who's had a cylinder fail, but they are admittedly a very very small number of people. If you're basing your buying decision on fears of cylinder failure, you are simply overreacting. I have an '01, no grind, my oil consumption seems to have stopped at 15,000 miles, my clutch is fine, I can probably put another 5000 on my rear tires before replacing them, and the drivers' auto-down is simply a nuisance problem, the window still goes down, you just have to keep your finger on the button, heaven forbid!
This is by far the most satisfying car I've ever owned. If you treat the car with respect (no clutch drops, no VTECing on wet streets, etc.) the car will reward you with miles and miles of smiles.

Owned a 2001 and drive a 2002. If you can find something better, buy it. Can't imagine more enjoyment in a two seater. Most of the problems could probably relate back to how the cars were driven. The rest make up a big minority and get published here where we all get to look for potential problems. I would guess well over 90% of us are pretty happy with the car.
