How this message board talking me out of buying a s2000
6000 miles - No major problems, just the 2 minor below:
Alignment - caster needs to be reset so car drives a straight line - Dealer will cover the expense.
Drivers seat - I feel a clicking when I go around corners or over bumps. Probably needs bolts tightened or something. dealer will be looking at it next week. Al covered under warranty.
Thats it. Everything else is perfect.

I agree with most people in that the car has no more problems than any good sports car.
What has BOGGLED my mind, is American Hondas and Honda dealers inability to service this car properly, treat their customers fairly and admit when they are wrong.
A prime example of this is the oil bolt issue, it was a pure $$$ decision that proves they don't give a rats ass about us.
The car makes me do
and this
American Honda, their dealerships and service make me do
and a lot of
I have the following issues that should be all warranty covered when I take it out of storage this sprring:
- Clutch buzz when decelerating TSB (2nd time, there is revision 5 out there, I have revision 2)
- 1-2 Gear grind TSB: (2nd time, it isn't so bad this one but still is annoying sometimes, doesn't happen too often though)
- Vibration from drivers side inner CV joint. (1st time, most dealers aren't aware of this one and no tsb is available.)
- MAP sensor issue. (1st time, when the weather starts getting really hot, the car idles rough sometimes, again, it isn't so bad and it is hard to re-produce. A patch fix is too unscrew the map sensor and tap it a few times and put it back, takes 2 mins)
My final decision on Hondas is going to depend on the service I get for those fixes.
Hope all goes well and I am a happy camper.

Tony
Gimme a break.
I read everything on this board for a year before buying mine. As a result I've made the MOST informed auto buying decision in my life. I KNOW all the problems (haven't had one) going in. Try that with a Ford. To think something will NEVER have a problem over tens of thousands of units is just plain dumb. Try finding out about corvette engines blowing up. They do. But they don't have a community as large as this online where you can find a large resource of that info. Be informed, it's a good thing. Don't be rash.

I'm really impressed. markpenske asked a perfectly legitimate question about buying an S2000 and everyone gave civil, rational answers. This is probably the most positive thread I've read. I like this.
It just goes to show that even with all of the bitching, we all really love our S2000s.

I think if you buy the car, do not abuse it in any way and maintain it to a T, it should give you years of fun. My 02 has the drivers window issue, which I hope to get corrected this spring. Other than that, the car has been a joy. Good luck in your decision.
HERE'S MY SINCERE OPINION:
This message board is to share and resolute problems, hence, almost only problems are talked about and presented. In my sincerity, so far I've had no problems whatsoever with my S, and it has over 24K miles in the last two years.
You have the right to doubt the reliability of S2000 since most of us here would agree that the S is the least reliable of Honda cars. Why? I think because it is over-tuned. Take BMW M3 (E46) for example, reliability has been very poor because it seems to be over-tuned as well. Their owners have reported all kinds of problems with it--blown motors, etc. However, an S2000 is still more reliable than an M3, of which both are over-tuned, IMO.
I've also had a few Hondas myself, and didn't have a SINGLE problem with any of them. Honda didn't grab a superior record of reliability out of the air, they earned it for a reason. Don't let a few S2000's change your mind about it.
Anyway, so far I have yet to have any problem with my S, and it better stay that way.
Peace!
