How much of a difference does VSA make?
Typically, all other things being equal (condition, mileage, color, etc.), you'll see a bump up in price for each newer year model from 2000 to 2009. To me the bigger question when it comes to the '06+ cars is whether or not you personally are cool with DBW technology. If DBW appeals to you, then it would seem like VSA would be a nice bonus to have. If you are actually planning to daily one of these cars through all seasons then I'd recommend prioritizing those cars that come with the hard top over the other stuff.
I doubt he's planning to drive an S through Canadian winters. I think his concerns about VSA and CA are related to shoulder season weather. Its easy for a nice day and nice weather report to turn cold and wet unexpectedly, and to be caught away from home.
remember that the 06+ have the horrible return less fuel system. They way i think the 04-05 ap2's are better. for anyone looking to go for real power and go boosted the 04-05 is the way to go. You you dont plan to go boosted the 06 cars a better.
I've been looking at the market and it appears there is a nice jump from the AP2V1 --> AP2V2 (2006-7) cars.
I'm looking at dailying the car through all seasons, and I wouldn't mind the extra comfort of VSA. I'm also not a complete fool and have restraint when it comes to safe driving. I've had a NB miata for the part 3 years that hasn't given me any problems (no ABS either - although significantly less grunt than the S). The VSA in 2006+ cars isn't traction control correct - just stability assist?
What I'm trying to ask is: would VSA affect your decision if you had to do it all over again?

No, not the same. Traction Control tries to prevent you getting stuck in mud or snow (or from roasting your tires cause your engine is too big). Stability Control tries to keep you from sliding off the road.
One is for when you aren't moving but wish you were. The other is for when you are moving, but wish you were moving in a different direction.
