How much is my S2k worth?
I would have to disagree, cars bring what the market will pay for them. I own and S2000 and have been involved in 5 purchases now. Every S2000 I have been involved with buying has been on the market at least 2 months, some as long as 8 months. People have unrealistic expectations of the value of the car. Over time they are forced to lower the price if they want it sold. They would have received more for the car had they priced it correctly in the first place. As mentioned before many S2000's are now 4 years old. The average price for one sold by a dealer is probably 4000 less then 3 years ago. Resale value is still exceptional and I expect it always will be. Older cars will bring less as they age and the competion for this type of car is heating up with more options. There is only one reason a car does not sell. It is overpriced for the market. You then have no choice but to lower the price. There is also one other huge driver of used vehicle prices. That is auction values of cars wholesaled by dealers off of trades. Up to 2 years ago you never saw an S2000 at auction. Dealers kept them and sold them themselves. Now the auctions have lots of S2000's and the prices have dropped almost 5000 dollars in the last year. Dealers know almost to the dollar what they can get for a car on their used lots and that drives the auction price. In the end it comes down to supply and demand. There are great bargins out there right now in S2000's and I expect next fall will be an even better buyers market!
