Default How much should a valve adjustment cost?

My 2002 s2k with 67k miles is acting loud idling and driving. I've already replaced the TCT unit myself to no avail. I don't really have the technical knowledge to do a valve adjustment myself. I searched some posts and it seems complicated.

So far I've checked:

Honda Westminster: $395.
Fladboe Honda Irvine: $350.
Santa Ana Honda: $295.

Geez...

I just had my done at the end of Sept at my local Honda dealership. They charge me $198 for labor and $34 for a new gasket.

I asked a service rep at my local dealer an approximate cost and he said around an hour, maybe two at $85/hr.

This is reasonable. 1-2 hours labor, no parts. New gasket should not be necessary unless they screw up the old one. It depends on how many of the valves actually need adjusting.

I just payed 80 bucks for mine. I have a turbo so there are less things in the way of the valve cover coming off.

Other cars I have owned.
- 1991 Ford Taurus SHO. Valve adjustment required essentially complete disassembly of the entire top of the (Yamaha V6) engine to get down to the mechanical valve lifters. I had inquired once, and the amount of labor is considerable. Probably would cost $1000 - $2000 in today's money.
- 1998 Mazda Millenia S. Getting to the valves, which were supposed to be adjusted at 60,000 miles, was even worse. Add disassembly of the entire supercharger drive system, and major mechanical disassembly of the top half of the engine. More than eight hours of labor, plus the need to replace the supercharger belt, and various other drive belts. Extremely $$$xpensive.
By comparison, the S2000 has an easily accessible camshaft, and evidently just requires removal of valve cover, and careful measuring and insertion of spacers. Much more user friendly.
