Default How to pack wheels for shipping

I am selling a set of wheels and I was wondering how some of you other guys have packed them up for shipment? If you suggest big boxes, where can I buy them? If not boxes, then what should I use? Which carrier do you suggest? Seems like FedEx has the best prices.

Are you shipping with or without tires?

I shipped wheels before in the original box that it came in...If you don't have those go to office depot or staples and buy some boxesor you can go to a fedex location and use their boxes. You can either do one or two wheels per box would be fine, but make sure you have enough cardboard or packing material inside so the wheels dont move inside the box. I used fedex and I made sure to get the wheels insured just incase fedex loses it...

Make sure they are packed tight and there is enough carboard between the edge of the rim and the box to allow for crush room.

I had 3 sets of rims shipped from the factory that arrived flatspotted due to UPS's shitty handling.

If they have tires on them.........

Cut out a circle of cardboard (go to any local mega store and ask for boxes, they will be glad to give you some).....that is bigger than the rim face, but smaller than the end of the tire......(1" before the tire ends)......secure the cardboard to the face of the rim....very tightly. You can place some bubble wrap in between the rim face and cardboard. Thats it. Just stick the shipping label on the tire.

Before anyone tries to flame me, thats how Tirerack ships their wheels.

That is how mine where shipped as well. I would only add that something soft on the faces to protect them. Cardboard can scratch the faces in transit. I will be using Stretch wrap on them as well. You can buy a small roll from Office Depot, Staples, etc for a few buck. It is well worth it.

To save some time go to your local pizza place and ask to buy the cardboard circles they use in their boxes. They work great !
