How do you not lug it under 3.5k? j/k

That really helped, thanks for the link! And I apologise for not doing a search beforehand on this topic.

One last question. How many of you actually rev the car at 3-4k rpm range during start up in cold weather like one of our members?
I really subscribe to the one minute wait and no longer theory now but the reving part still disturbs me.

It's not necessary to rev the car at all during start-up. Infact this is one of the curcial periods because the valve train and the pistons are not well lubricated. It takes a second to begin pumping oil from the pan to the moving parts of the engine. Just try starting the car without putting your foot on the gas. The fuel injection system has an enrichening circuit that will sufficiently keep the motor at a higher idle. If your reving it to 3 to 4K at startup, your eventually going to cause excellerated wear. Reving the car is not good at start-up ever! I suggest that if your not using an oil additive like Prolong or a premium synthetic oil like Redline you should start. You've already spent the money for a premium auto, make sure that you put premium everything in it. I will tell you this for absolutely sure, if you make it a habit of reving the motor at startup, I will guantee that your asking for a burnt valve. Remember friction is the motors worst enemy. When no oil or oil film is present on moving parts friction is at it's worst. Thats why you need to change your oil at regular intervals so that it can perform at it's best.

My truck has 300,000 miles without a hich, it has always had a fast idle, about 1500rpm and in the cold its usually up around 3000 for a bit.

Im sure its fine to let the S2000 Idle where it wants to, mine idles at 2000 in the cold.

Other people have posted that parts dont fit, thats right, especially the pistons/cylinder sleevs. Remember that the inside of a cylinder actually contracts when warming up. After the first few min. its OK to bring the rpm's up a bit more, and after a full warm up, run her like its meant to!

To respond to the not lugging question you just run it in the right gear for the desired speed that keeps the RPS between 2500 - 3500.

I get a lot of clatter after start-up. I'm guessing this is from the lifters? Oil level is topped off. My '87 Accord has always done this (I also get the valves adjusted every 15K miles) and I've heard that this is just what Hondas do.

I usually wait 2-3 minutes before driving off and never rev beyond 3000 rpm until I have three bars on the water temp.
