i try to shift at 3~4K but then im like well its only ~1K more to VTEC so that doesnt help
Actually, V-TEC doesn't kick in until 6k RPM. The powerband starts around 4k RPM to V-TEC and beyond. That was the reason why I did this experiment. Because our car doesn't have much torque at low-end RPM, it uses more gas to propell. Now, on cars with sufficient torque at low-end RPM, you would save gas by shifting early and keeping the RPM low.

For people who get 23+ miles per gallon, it doesn't take a genius to know that you spend some part of you daily commute on highway/freeway/interstate. Here's how you get better milage on highway. It's simple. At those speed, for instance, 65+mph the car produces much higher torque, plus less stop-and-go. Torque is the key.

I'm not here to tell you what to do. I just wanted to share my experiences with you guys. If you think it benefits you, use it, otherwise ignore me And for those who prefer more V-TEC and not gas milage, you shouldn't even be in this thread in the first place.

Yeah, well that's not too bad, actually. At least that's regular pump gas. Some track cars need race gas, which means $7 or $8 per gallon.

On a road course, you spend the whole time going WOT right up to the corner, then turning all that energy into brake heat, and then going WOT to the next corner, etc.
I'll be looking forward to that, then. First road course event for me in Dec.

Here are my stats and calculations...

Tank Size === 13.2 gal/50 liters (minus ~10%)
Average Distance === 252 mi/420 km per tank
MPG === 21.3 mpg/9.3 kpl

I'd say that is pretty average (or slightly above) as ratings state 18mpg/city and 20mpg combined. These are calculated with 75% city driving and 25% highway.

Mind you, I got a major increase in mileage after installing test pipe and dual exhaust system... (this is arguable I suppose, others have had opposite results apparently...)

When I first got this car, I could barely get 330km to a tank! I need to plan out a 500km highway trip and see how it does on the highway...

What else can I do get even more miles in?

dk!

Invidia TP and Exhaust, what I want to know is how some members here claim over 400 miles to a tank!

I lol'd reading that. 9K FTW! But to actually contribute to the thread, I get 20-23 mpg, 2001 S2000, shift between 3-5k normally. Also use 92 or 93 octane gas.

My daily commute is 6 miles with 2 stop signs and 6 traffic lights and I average 23 mpg every tank.

Maybe less time should be spent looking at the speedo for when to shift and more time should be spent driving and enjoying the roadster you own. At $3.22/gal premium, a few extra miles per gallon doesn't mean much.

Anyone who wanted gas mileage should have gotten a Civic.

US gets way cheaper cars. US gets way cheaper gas. US gets way cheaper insurance (in most states than BC). We don't necessarily earn more $, in fact, probably less. Our taxes go to crackheads supplying needles to drug addicts.

I think those are enough for me to consider moving to the US.

You also don't have GW. When he was re-elected my wife and I seriously thought about moving to Vancouver..
