Default How are these VIN stickers used that came with my car?

When I got my S2k brand new in 2004 (I got to peel the protective plastic off of her, which was super satisfying to do!) it also came with a dozen of these VIN stickers.

What / how are they used for?

Well, they don't look like the ones actually used on the car itself. I wonder if they were to be used on paperwork/documentation by dealers. You grab a form, paste on a sticker, and away you go. The stickers ensure the correct VIN and model is recorded on any forms.

Interesting theory, but I've never seen stickers like this before on any paperwork. They are very thin, like rice paper. I wonder if they stuck these on the outside of the car, on the different panels and parts during transport from Japan so the VIN is easy to see?

those are for vin etching. its a service provided by dealers for a couple hundred bucks that normally etches the vin onto every vehicle glass for easier identification if stolen etc

Is that only for the glass? I've never seen the VIN on any of the glass pieces (I don't think...).
