How touch up wheels on 2008
One of the wheels on my 2008 has a scrape. Not bad but it looks like it took off the clear coat and maybe some of the paint. Still smooth but a dull finish. How should I touch it up? I found this description in a 2001 post, see below. However, I think the scratch is below the clear coat and has rubbed the paint on the wheel. Are wheels on all the S2000s the same in terms of being painted and clear coated?
"If they are scratches, then 300 grit wet/dry sandpaper with water as lubricant. It will take a lot of rubbing and a change paper frequently. Once the scratches are removed, then step-up the grit to higher levels until you get the brushed finish that is on the wheels already. BTW, I believe there is a clear coat on the wheels that you will have to sand through and then replace when your finished.
I used a similar technique on the center hub cover experimenting with polishing it for a different appearance. My son had some clear coat in a spray can which worked fine. You may want to mask off the wheel to eliminate overspray when you touch-up the area you repair. Good luck!"
