I thought this thread was a "waste of webspace"?

It doesn't. I go to leave in the morning, back out of the garage and when I get into the street, I put it in gear and go. Next thing you know, I'm doing four and the engine is racing and the car just doesn't shift. I have to manually select what gear I want.

Once the gearbox is warmed up, it's fine. On cold mornings, first gear is a little notchy.

the S is at least as crisp as my miatas... i am equally as picky with the tranny... shift feel comes before power in my book. for example, i came close on several occasions to buying a vw gti, but that shifter was so clueless... i just dont think i could have lived with it.

the worst shifting car i have owned had to be a 87 saab 900. that thing was like driving a jeep --- SUPER long throws, vague gates, clunky as hell. i was so happy to move on to my 89 crx si (after about 3 months)...

the S and miata are more of a flick of the wrist action... with each gear "snicking" perfectly into place. these subtle actions are overlooked by most manufacturers... but there are obviously consumers out there who notice such details.

the S has the most responsive, precise engine / tranny combo i have ever driven...

606 is too busy to respond... he's working out a plan to attach 55 gallon drums to his S and sail it TO cuba.

My friend's 99 V6 Cougar has a pretty crappy shifter. I currently have a 99 lude SH and am very pleased with it. Pull, push, pull, push. Very easy... his car is crap. Sorry for any Cougar lovers out there I love the S shifter and will be getting mine soon!
