Default How well does the S2000 shift?

The S2000 is a raw, unrefined sports car with no concessions to luxury. You won't find heated seats or a navigation system in this car, thank god. I embrace and rejoice in this sports car philosophy.

However, if you are going to use this no compromise approach, the car better shift beautifully. The shifting better be delightful, flawless, and precise, as you would expect in a driver's sports machine.

I won't accept a pure sports car that has grinding and notchy gear shifts. I think this is a sane philosophy. So, how well does the S2000 shift?

Please don't ask me to do a search, because I am the professor of search. What I'd like to know is as of 7/17/03, how well do the brand new S2000s shift?

Is the grinding and notchiness fixed, or will I buy a pure sports car that doesn't even feel good to change gears in?

Simply, it has the best shifter and transmission in the business and it's as close to perfect as you can get!

This really is the best shifting tranny in the business. I have never driven a car that shifts better than the S2000.

I highly recommend you go test drive one right away. A man's perfect feeling shifter is another man's notchy feeling shifter.

I have an 03 and no issues with the tranny. A good test drive should give a fair indication of a particular car's shifting smoothness. If it's "notchy" or grinding don't buy that car. This was one of the main issues of concern when I purchased my S.

The S2000 is a raw, unrefined sports car with no concessions to luxury.

I consider leather seats and a leather wrapped steering wheel and cruise control and a stereo and ABS and power top and power windows and power steering and power mirrors luxury items...

Test drive and find out for yourself. Supposedly the closest thing to the S2k shifter is the Miata's, which I have to say isn't even close. The S2k shifter is a much shorter throw and much much smoother.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Shifting is the most important thing in the world to me when it comes to driving. I'm glad the S2000 is so good.

A sports car that doesn't shift well is like an automatic weapon that jams in battle.
